Acquired at the above sale by Helen F. Boehm (1920–2010), New York;
Her sale, New York, Sotheby's, 16 May 1996, lot 154 (as a self portrait attributed to Sofonisba Anguissola), where acquired by the present owner.

Condition

The canvas has been relined. The paint surface is covered by a thick varnish except for the sitter's head and hands. There have been some small retouchings on the arm of the chair, as well as in the righthand sleeve, and throughout the background.
