Catalogue Note

The physiognomy and tilt of the head can be compared to the face of the mounted figure to the left of Saint Martin in Van Dyck's Saint Martin Dividing his Cloak, the original version of which is in the Parish Church in Zaventem, and a later variation is in the Royal Collection, London (see S. Barnes, N. De Poorter, O. Millar, H. Vey, Van Dyck, A Complete Catalogue of the Paintings, New Haven and London 2004, pp. 53–56, cat. nos. I.38 and I.39).
