Description
- Jan Breughel the Younger
- Landscape with a monkey eating fruit, a squirrel and a shepherd watching his herd beyond
- oil on copper
Condition
The copper support is flat and the paint surface stable. The upper edge is a little uneven and may have been cut in the past. There is a large old repaired damage of c. 10 x 3 cm just to the right and and above the seated figure, which has been reinforced by an additional piece of metal attached to the reverse. The paint surface itself is otherwise dirty and the varnish layer is now discoloured. Inspection under ultra-violet light reveals only scattered local retouchings, mostly in the areas of the topmost sky, the horizon and the immediate foreground. The restoration is a little crude and has discoloured in parts.
Offered with a modern and parcel gilt veneered wood frame in good condition.
