Condition

The canvas is unlined and slightly loose in its stretcher. The paint surface is clean and the thickness of paint well-preserved. Under drawing is visible in parts. There are no apparent losses of paint or damage. Inspection under ultraviolet light shows scattered retouchings in the architecture, at the centre of the right margin and along the lower margin, as well as an 11 cm. repair in the sky upper right. This lot is offered in a giltwood frame with mouldings with some knocks to the mouldings.

Catalogue Note

Federico Moja lived in Venice for about thirty years, beginning in 1841. The blonde tonality of the present work is found in another smaller Venetian view, signed and dated 1831, formerly with Caiati and Salomon, Milan.
