Condition
The painting is less red than the catalogue illustration suggests. The mid (?) 20th century relining is still taut and has not adversely affected the paint surface which is clean and to the naked eye appears in good condition. The impasto is well preserved and the brushstrokes still apparent. Inspection under UV light reveals some scattered retouchings as well as some non-obtrusive strengthenings in the craquelure in the sky. Can hang now.
