Condition
The paintings are yellower than the catalogue illustrations. The canvases have mid-20th century relinings which are still firm and which have not overly flattened the paint surface. The Grand Canal painting is under a yellowed varnish. To the naked eye both pictures appear dirty and in fair condition with some good impasto in the sky but some area of flatness scattered in the buildings. Inspection under UV light reveals some scattered old retouchings in the sky but otherwise confirms the quite good overall condition. The paintings would benefit from a clean.
