By whose Estate sold, New York, Christie's, 31 May 1991, lot 14, for $46,200.

Condition

The panel is cradled. The paint surface is stable and in fair condition. There is some wear in the background tones, and in the large dark green leaf I the background and in the red bud drooping its head. The still life of the lower half is lively and colours have not faded too dramatically. Underdrawing is visible in the stone ledge and in some of the fruit. There is a small fleck of damage in the lower right corner. Inspection under ultraviolet light shows retouchings throughout the background, and along the stone ledge. There is scattered re-strengthening in the fruit and leaves of the still life. This lot is offered in a French Louis XVI style-frame, of the same period, and likely to have been made in Belgium.
