Description

  • oil on oak panel, prepared reverse

Condition

The panel is flat and un-cradled, with a thin plaster layer on the reverse. There is a fine vertical split running through the centre of the panel. Inspection under ultraviolet light shows small scattered re-touchings to the aforementioned split in the wood, to the bonnet and to the chest of the sitter. There are re-touchings in her face concentrated around her nose. The picture is covered by a thick milky varnish. Overall the paint surface is in good, stable condition. Offered in an ebonised Dutch-style rippled frame, in very good condition.
