Condition
The canvas has been recently relined and restretched, and is in reasonable overall condition. The paint surface is worn in some areas, notably in the foreground. There are local spot retouchings which have discoloured, and strengthenings in the foreground.

Catalogue Note
When with Nijstad in The Hague in 1963, this picture was accompanied by an unsigned pendant, depicting Shipping on the river Amstel near Amsterdam, but the two were separated at the time of the 1972 sale. The same compositions, but with some differences in the foreground of the present composition, were sold London, Christie's, 20 July 1990, lot 215, as signed by Adam Silo (1674–1756).
