Catalogue Note

Bison was a fluent and prolific draughtsman and this is a typical example of his pen and ink drawing style.  Such figures appear in the artist's decorative commissions, but no connection has been established with a known painting, and it is likely that this is one of the numerous drawings by Bison that appear to have been made for their own sake, rather than as preparatory studies.
