Condition
Hinge mounted. There are areas of minor surface dirt throughout the sheet and some creases to the four edges as a result of the current mount. The medium is generally fresh throughout.

Catalogue Note
The lower study on the recto - surprisingly reminiscent of Pontormo's drawings - is for the figure of Cupid in Volterrano's small portable fresco Venal Love (fig. 1), now in the Galleria Palatina, Florence,1 while the upper one shows the same figure exactly as he appears in the fresco, pouring gold coins from what appears to be his quiver into Venus' left hand. On the verso, Volterrano made three further studies for Venus' hand.
