This rare work has survived well for its age. The sheet has darkened slightly with time but the medium remains easily readable.

Catalogue Note
The present drawing is likely to date from after Oliver’s visit to Italy in 1596 and it can be compared with his figure studies, now at the Courtauld Institute of Art in London. Previous owners of this rare work include the artist and collector Jonathan Richardson (1665-1745).
