Condition

Window mounted. Some losses at the upper margin, more noticeable inthe upper right corner. A few small brown stains. Otherwise gouache remains fresh and strong.

Catalogue Note

Willem Troost, and his contemporary Abraham Rademaker, revived in the early 18th Century the tradition of landscape painting in gouache sustained by Gerrit van Battem a generation earlier.  They were both enormously influential on German 18th Century artists in Nürnberg and elsewhere.
