Condition

Partially laid down to backing sheet. Veluum has buckled and wrinkled, most evident upper left and right corner. There is a small brown stain lower left and a few other scattered brown stains around her feet. Black chalk remains strong.

This drawing is one of a series of at least thirteen by Mieris in which he copied ivory sculptures and reliefs by the Flemish ivory-carver Francis van Bossuit, sculptures which were subsequently also the subject of a series of engravings by Matthijs Pool in 1727.
