Catalogue Note
FIRST EDITION of Gassendi's biographies of famous astronomers; the order of the contents indicates that Tycho's reputation was higher than Copernicus's at this date. Gassendi describes the duel following a mathematical dispute during which Tycho famously lost his nose, and also mentions his pet moose which died after falling down stairs.
