Catalogue Note

This was originally published in a volume preceded by two works by Jacques de Nuysement and followed by Sendivogius's Traicté du Soulphre; De Bosnay's translation into French was first published in 1629. The author may actually have been Alexander Seton, a Scottish alchemist at the court of Saxony, who died in 1603 or 1604 after being tortured to reveal the secret of his transmutation powder.
