Catalogue Note

This was the year of The Mikado, first performed on 14 March 1885.  On 20 June, Sullivan embarked on a four-month tour of North America.  However, he visited Ottawa in 1880 and not 1885, staying at the home of the Governor-General, Lord Lorne (where he composed a "national hymn", to Lorne's words 'God Bless Our Wide Dominion, Our Fathers' Chosen Land').
