Catalogue Note
Apollinaire had been an early admirer of De Chirico's work when it was first exhibited in Paris in 1913. "This edition of Calligrammes, with its spacious pages and deliberately eccentric typographic design, seeks to express in visual terms the rhythm of the verse" (The Artist and the Book, p. 46).
For the first edition of Apollinaire's poems, see lot 99.
