Catalogue Note
First Latin edition, translated from the original German text published in 1513. This is the first treatise to treat obstetrics as a separate subject in its own right. Roesslin was town physician in Worms with responsibility for the midwives, therefore he wrote in the vernacular as midwives were unlikely to be conversant with Latin. The illustrations depict the different ways a baby can lie in the womb.
