Catalogue Note

Cardinal Antonio Barberini arranged these entertainments for the visit to Rome of Alexander Karl Vasa, Prince of Poland (1614-1634), although the prince left town before the festivities took place. The final plate shows a fine view from the north of Piazza Navona, where the festivites took place during Carnival. The entertainment included the most famous castrato singer of the day, Marcantonio Pasqualini, who was under the Cardinal's patronage.
