Catalogue Note
Dedicated to Paul III, one of his former pupils, Pighius's treatise is a response to Henry VIII's separation from the Church of Rome, first published in 1538, the year that Paul III excommunicated Henry.
The dolphin stamp seems to be identical with that on a Spanish binding in the British Library, Davis 657, and plate XXIV in Encuadernaciones Españolas shows a binding from Alcalá on a book dated 1564 which is very similar in design.
