Aristoxenus is the most important writer on Ancient Greek music, regarding its technical rather than philosophical aspects.  Books from composers' libraries such as this one, once owned by Giacomo Meyerbeer (1791-1864), are rarely offered for sale.  Earlier distinguished owners of the volume were the geographer Charles Marie de La Condamine (1701-1774), and the astronomer Louis Godin.  La Condamine sailed to South America with Godin in 1735 and measured latitude at the equator, detailed in his Journal du voyage fait par ordre du Roi a l'equateur (1751).
