Mikhailovsky-Danilevsky was a military man who fought in the battle of Borodino. After writing some personal accounts of the military action he had seen, he was appointed by Nicholas I to write official histories of the campaigns of Alexander I, for which he was granted access to all the official records. This is one of those official (and uncritical) histories, detailing the Russian campaign against the kingdom of Sweden, which resulted in the autonomous Grand Duchy of Finland, and for which Mikhailovsky-Danilevsky obtained several rewards and decorations.
