Catalogue Note

AN ASSOCIATION COPY FROM THE LIBRARY OF MADAME DE POMPADOUR, one of the greatest femmes-bibliophiles of the eighteenth century. The present edition still gives Madame de La Fayette's secretary, Segrais, as the author. Zayde is a collection of tales in the manner of the Grand Cyrus, but substitutes a Spanish setting and focuses on the unfortunate and unhappy aspects of love.
