Catalogue Note

The librettist was Moniglia, and the design for the ballet was by Alessandro Carducci. The spectacle included four riders representing the four Medicean stars as described in Galileo's Nuncius sidereus.

The marriage between Cosimo III and Marguerite-Louise was not a success; Marguerite-Louise refused to learn Italian and, probably through the malign influence of her mother-in-law, she returned in Paris in 1674, leaving their three children behind.
