There is a single tiny spot of very minor, slight lifting to black pigment in the bottom left hand corner, with two further, smaller traces visible below this area and minor reticulation visible elsewhere. This excepting the work appears in very good overall condition. Ultraviolet light reveals a couple of very minor areas fluorescence and retouching to the black pigment in the bottom left hand quadrant. These have been very sensitively executed. Catalogue Note

'I should like to be able to put on canvas this underlying harmony which I first feel  rather than see, and then extract from the facts of nature, distil and later develop according to the needs of the canvas' Ivon Hitchens quoted in Peter Khoroche, Ivon Hitchens, Andre Deutsch Limited, 1990, p. 109).
