Condition

Original canvas. There are stretcher bar marks apparent to the edges. There are extremely fine traces of isolated craquelure, including to the brown pigment, with a few further traces appearing elsewhere. This is only visible upon extremely close inspection. There are one or two tiny traces of very minor studio detritus apparent upon close inspection, but this excepting the work appears in good overall condition. Ultraviolet light reveals a single, small vertical line of fluorescence and possible retouching to the centre of the left hand edge, running upwards from the tip of the sitter's head, with a couple of further, smaller spots appearing in the bottom left hand corner. Housed in a thick gilt and painted wooden frame. Please telephone the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any questions regarding the present lot.
