Condition

Original canvas, the canvas undulates in the upper right hand corner. There is a horizontal stretcher bar mark visible running through the centre and along the bottom edge, with some isolates areas of craquelure appearing to the bottom half of the composition, including to a vertical line up the right hand side, with some very minor resultant lifting. There is a spot of loss to the bottom of the central yellow strip, with a further to a line of fine craquelure up and to the left of this. Elsewhere there is minor surface dirt and traces of surface matter and possible studio detritus, including spots of light staining most apparent in the orange and yellow pigment upper right, but this excepting the work appears in good overall condition. THe work would benefit from a light clean. Ultraviolet light reveals areas of fluorescence and probable retouchings to the right hand side of the orange pigment in the upper quarter of the composition, and a further spot in the upper left hand corner. Housed in a thin lightly painted wooden frame. Please telephone the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any questions regarding the present lot.
