Catalogue Note

We are pleased to offer four works by Jamini Roy from the collection of William Cousins and Gouri Bose. Working with the American Friends Service Committee in Calcutta in the 1950s, Mr. Cousins and Mrs. Bose became good friends with the artist. Mr. Cousins would spend time after work admiring paintings in the studio and Jamini Roy would even make the occasional painting for him. This special friendship is just one example of Jamini Roy's belief that art should be accessible to everyone.
