Condition
Very good condition overall with minor surface dirt in the crevices, and a few minor scratches and wear to the patina at several places. A few minor chips to the edges of the marble base. Very nice Hebrard lost wax cast, good in all details.

Catalogue Note
En 1641, Jean Warin (1606-1672) fit le buste en bronze du Cardinal de Richelieu (1585-1642). La fonte originale, donnée à la bibliothèque de la Sorbonne par la duchesse d'Aiguillon, fut perdue après la Révolution. Plusieurs versions en bronze de ce buste se trouvent aujourd'hui au musée Jacquemart-André (inv. no.615), à la Bibliothèque Mazarine à Paris, au château de Windsor et à l'Albertinum de Dresde. Il semblerait que le fondeur Hébrard utilisait le portrait réalisé par Warin comme modèle pour la fonte du bronze.
