Condition

Very crisp cast in good condition overall. Some scratches and wear to the patina at several places, consistent with age and handling. Patina rubbed off in particular to her back, to her proper left shoulder, to her proper right arm, and some minor wear to her face. Very nice bronze.

Catalogue Note

La statuette de la Vénus au bain fut longtemps considérée comme une œuvre de jeunesse de Giambologna, réalisée vers 1565. De nos jours,  il semble plus vraisemblable qu’elle soit une réplique en réduction du marbre grandeur nature sculpté par Giambologna en 1583 et aujourd’hui conservé à l’Ambassade Américaine, à Rome.
