Condition

Very good condition overall with some minor wear to the patina and some surface dirt and oxydation in the crevisses. Casting flaws and casting holes visible at several places, especially to the backs of the bronzes. Hope: Some casting flaws and old fillings, in particular to the back of her dress, with two old fixing holes. The bronze is open at the back to the lower edge. Two small fingers of her right upheld hand missing. Faith: Two fixing holes and a few casting flaws and old fillings to her dress. The index of her right hand missing. The foot of the cup appears to have been repaired. Some surface dust and oxydation in the crevisses; Charity: the fingers of her right hand, as well as the Child's left hand partially missing. the standing child's fixation slightly loose. One casting hole below her knee, and some casting flaws and old fillings to the lower part and back of her dress. Very crisp and good casts, good in all details, with fine chiselling and finishing, warm brown patina. Rare to find a set of Three. Please note the height of the bronzes Hope, 25,5 cm Faith 25,5 cm Charity , 26,5 cm

Catalogue Note

Ces trois figures allégoriques aux proportions allongées, les corps enveloppés dans des longues robes moulantes, et mise en valeur par une grande précision de fonte ainsi q'uune belle finition du bronze,  tout à fait caractéristique des oeuvres du sculpteur Tiziano Aspetti, avec Girolamo Campana l'un des plus grands de son temps à Venise. Trois Allégories similaires en bronze, attribuées à Aspetti, sont conservées au musée de Douai. L'Espérance reprend ici l'attitude de la Vénus et Cupidon, réalisée par Aspetti vers 1590 (musée de Dresde, inv.no 524). Il est rare de trouver la série des trois Vertus ensemble, ici particulièrement mise en valeur par une belle qualité de fonte.
