Aux côtés de Jacob-Desmalter, Demay, Brion et Sellier, l'ébéniste Pierre-Benoît Marcion (1769-1840) fut l'un des principaux fournisseurs des palais impériaux. Outre de magnifiques meubles destinés aux salles d’apparat, des sièges plus courants furent également commandés pour le service et l'administration. Tel est le cas de ces trois chaises, déclinant un modèle que l'on retrouve dans les différentes résidences de Napoléon Ier (vente à Drouot du 8 juin 2012, lot 215 pour un modèle similaire).
