Condition

The terracotta is in overall very good condition. There are minor repairs to the flowers in the vase and the the umbrella. There overall dirt and some discolouration to the surface consistent with age.

Catalogue Note

Le thème des chinoiseries connut un essor considérable à la fin du XVIIIe et au début du XIXe siècle, s'inspirant grandement des compositions de François Boucher (1703-1770). Un groupe très proche figurant un Chinois coiffant une femme fut parfois attribué à Josse-François-Leriche (1738-1812) qui réalisa de nombreux modèles de biscuits pour la Manufacture de Sèvres.
