Condition

The canvas is not relined. The colours are fresh and there is no evidence of retouching under UV light. This work is in excellent original condition.

Catalogue Note

Dès leur rencontre à Hollywood vers la fin de l’année 1940, Juliet devint le modèle privilégié de Man Ray. Dans cette toile aux couleurs rouges, pourpres et vertes saisissantes, les yeux de Juliet semblent manifestement obscurcis par ce que Man Ray a pu qualifier de masque. Cette toile s’inspire toutefois d’une de ses photographies de Juliet dans laquelle elle porte un chapeau à larges bords lui dessinant une ombre sur une grande partie de son visage.
