Catalogue Note
Les pièces les plus marquantes de l’Exposition internationale du surréalisme de Paris en 1938 étaient les mannequins de vitrines habillés spécialement pour l’evènement par un artiste surréaliste. En plus d’exposer un mannequin et plusieurs de ses peintures, Man Ray fut nommé “maître des lumières”, ce qui incluait de fournir des torches aux visiteurs afin d’éclairer leur chemin à travers la pénombre de l'univers surréaliste afin de rentrer jusqu’à la rue surréaliste, un long couloir peuplé de seize mannequins de vitrine.
La présente œuvre montre le mannequin de Maurice Henry, qui a rejoint le groupe surréaliste en 1933. Man Ray a photographié tous les mannequins exposés en 1938 puis a publié une série de 15 images en 1966 sous le titre Résurrection des mannequins.
