Catalogue Note

Man Ray made innumerable portraits and studies of Juliet often in a distinguished pose and wearing elaborate costumes and jewellery that serve to enhance her features. As a testament to the diverse imagery he created of her, Man Ray prepared for publication a collection of photographs which he called The Fifty Faces of Juliet (ultimately published after his death). In the present photograph, Juliet poses in front of Man Ray's painting La Fille du bois (1949).
