Catalogue Note

Accompanied by a letter from Joseph Abraham, stating, 'This watch with the monogram 'J.A.' was given to me on my Bar Mitzvah on the 25th Elul 5649 (21st September 1889) by my precious, kind, unforgettable sister Flora Solomon Sassoon. In 1931 I had no safe place to keep it & I requested her to take it back...'

Solomon David Sassoon (1841-1894) was Flora's husband. The Sassoon family crest depicts a bird holding an olive branch below the words 'Truth and Faith' in Hebrew.
