Description

  • blister pearl, gold, silver, diamond, ruby, enamel
The seated musician sailing atop a ship in the form of a phoenix, the ship composed of a blister pearl, set with rose and Dutch-cut diamonds, accented by cushion-cut rubies, applied with red and blue enamel, with Austrian hallmarks, two stones missing and some enamel damage apparent; last quarter of the 19th century.

Condition

In fair to good condition overall. Small spots of damage and loss to the enamel at the phoenix's brow and beak. Discoloration to the texturing of the gold throughout. Two small stones (presumed diamonds) missing; one in the floral motif and one at the tail. The pearl is a creamy silver-gray with strong overtones of pink and green. Waxy to good luster and blemishing mainly in the form of typical noduling and wrinkling of the skin. The rubies are bright medium pinkish red and moderately included, the diamonds are of decorative quality.
