Condition

There is an old transparent wax lining, with slight rucking visible in the top and bottom right of the canvas. There is very minor surface dirt. There is craquelure and areas of reticulation visible throughout the surface. There is a tiny fleck of loss to the centre of the dark green pigment towards the centre of the composition, visible upon very close inspection. There are minor signs of slight frame abrasion in the top right and left corners, and three apparent, very slight surface scratches; two running across the centre of the top and a third, larger running approximately 4in. vertically down the centre of the top half of the composition. Ultraviolet light reveals two very minor spots of fluorescence to the centre of the far left edge (in line with previous loss associated with the aforementioned craquelure) as well as two tiny flecks to the top right quadrant. Housed in a thick, gilt, ornate frame. Please telephone the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any questions regarding the present work.
