Condition

The sheet is not laid down, but is adhered to a backing card via a hinge along the top edge. There are pin holes visible to three corners, with a further area of loss to the top left corner, not visible in the present mount. There is cockling to the sheet, most notably in the top right quadrant, and deckling to all edges. There is staining to the sheet, most visible when viewed outside of the present mount, visible along the extreme left hand edge; in several spots to the sky, and in the sky in the upper right quadrant. There are three minor tears visible to the extreme bottom edge, the largest of which measures approximately 2cm., with four or five further very minor, isolated tears along the extreme right hand edge, one of which appears to have been previously restored. There is a further very minor tear to the sheet in the bottom extreme lower left hand side, and another to the top right edge. These are only noticeable upon very close inspection of the work, and are most visible when viewing the work out of the present frame. This excepting the work appears in good overall condition. Housed behind glass in a gilt frame with a white linen mount. Please telephone the department on +44 (0) 207 293 6424 if you have any questions regarding the present work.
