Condition

Unexamined out of frame. The sheet appears at least partially laid down to a backing card at all four corners. There are pin holes visible to the top and bottom rightcorners, with a further tiny nick to the extreme edge in the red pigment in the bottom left edge, only visible upon extremely close inspection. There are minor spots of very light staining, with one or two tiny spots of possible foxing to the unpainted areas of the sheet as well as a tiny spot in the upper left corner, but this excepting the work appears in very good overall condition. Housed behind glass, float-mounted against a cream backing card and set within a silver metal frame. Catalogue Note

In March 1963 Lanyon was visiting-painter at  the ‘San Antonio Art Institute’. During his four week stay in Texas he visited Piedras Negras and Mexico. This one-month visit was a very significant factor contributing to the more exuberant and highly coloured work produced over the last two years of his painting.

We are grateful to Martin Lanyon for his kind assistance with the cataloguing of the present work.
