Description

  • bronze
of square section and modelled on an archaic fanggu shape, cast with a splayed foot rising to a wide trumpet neck, the neck cast with archaistic cicada lappets, the central section with four taotie masks, all above a wave-patterned band encircling the foot, the interior with a removable Japanese inset for flower arranging, the patinated bronze of a warm coppery-brown colour

Condition

there is extensive oxidisation, especially to the inner bronze vessel. Minor chips to the mouth and foot, and other general surface wear.
