the frieze fitted all around with drawers, above a panelled base with incurved kneeholes and ends, all on plinth base.

Catalogue Note

The form of the desk is based off of a design for 'A Library Table' by Thomas Sheraton, found in his The Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer's Drawing-Book, London, 1793, plate 30.  An 18th century example from the collection of Lady Anne Tree of Mereworth Castle is illustrated in C. Claxton Stevens and S. Whittington, 18th Century English Furniture, The Norman Adams Collection, Woodbridge, 1983, p. 113.
