Catalogue Note
The design for this unusual desk, with its interplay of convex and concave surfaces, tapering square legs and highly figured veneers was inspired by published designs from both Hepplewhite and Sheraton in the late 18th century. See A. Hepplewhite, The Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer's Guide, plate 50 and T. Sheraton, Drawing Book, 3rd ed.1792, plate 26.
