Catalogue Note
These girandoles are similar to the work of John Linnell particularly to mirrors and girandoles he produced in the 1760s and 1770s. The rams' heads are particularly similar to a rams head holding draped husks of a 1774 workshop drawing of a girandole inscribed "Richr Mitchell Esq North Audley Street, in white' (p. 91 V&A E. 3516 1911). The overall configuration of the girandoles is similar to a set of six designed by Robert Adam and produced by Linnell for Robert Child at Osterly Park, circa 1770 (see H. Hayward and P. Kirkham, William and John Linnell, New York, 1980, vol. II, p. 86-87 figs. 167, 168)
