Catalogue Note
After publication in the New York periodical Pictorial Review, the novel was first published in a limited edition on 30 November 1923. The trade edition followed on 1 December, and the first English edition on 3 December. A Major in the Royal Army Medical Corps, Kenneth Campbell gave Conrad informal advice on his health problems.
