Catalogue Note

Cagle records that a second printing of the English edition (of 2200 copies) was ordered before the end of March (the first edition had appeared on 19 March). Conrad probably donated this for one of the several sales held by Christie's from the spring of 1915 onwards to support the Red Cross and the Order of St John of Jerusalem.
