Ever yours Joseph Conrad 1918"), early state with a comma in the imprint, 4pp. publisher's advertisements ("Methuen's Popular Novels") dated Autumn 1915 and 31 pp. publisher's catalogue dated 8/5/15 at end, ownership signature of Symons on front pastedown, pencil annotation ("290-307") to endpaper, original red cloth lettered in gilt on spine, spine faded, a few small stains to upper cover, binding slightly skewed, slightly shaken

For a note on Arthur Symons, see lot 262. First published within the American periodical Munsey's Magazine, in February 1915, the first book form of the novel was published in America by Doubleday, Page and Co., in March 1915. Publication in England followed in May. In this copy the half-title leaf and title-page are conjugate.
