Catalogue Note

Harriet Mary Capes (1849–1946) was “a writer of uplifting literature for children [and]… a lifelong friend of the Conrad family” (Knowles and Moore). In 1912, Conrad described her as “an old girl, but as intelligent as they make them”. Also see lot 229.
